Marriage

This bill will change a part to Virginia’s set of laws to make sure adults in Virginia can get married, even when the couple is the same gender.

• If this bill passes, it will:

  • Take words out of the law about marriage including a man and a woman.

  • Say that government workers cannot stop people in Virginia from getting married because of: 

    • the sex they were given at birth, 

    • the gender they have now, 

    • or their race.

  • Make sure Virginia takes seriously all marriages between adults, no matter what the sexes, genders, or races of the people are.

Position Statement:

New Disabled South supports people being able to marry who they want no matter what gender or race they are or their partner is.
