This is a bill about helping people who are very sick to die peacefully.
This bill is about helping people who are very sick and will die soon. It says that a doctor can give a sick person medicine to help them die peacefully if they ask for it.
The person must be very sick and have a doctor say they will die soon.
The person must ask for the medicine themselves.
The person must understand what the medicine will do and what other choices they have.
The doctor must make sure the person is making this choice freely and not being forced by anyone.
Doctors can’t:
Trick or force someone into taking the medicine.
Be punished for giving the medicine if they follow the law.
Hospitals can decide if they want to let doctors give the medicine there.
The government will keep track of how many people use the medicine to die peacefully.
