About the bill:
This bill gets rid of some requirements around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs at public colleges and universities.
DEI Programs: Programs that help make schools, jobs, and communities fair for everyone by including people of different backgrounds, treating everyone fairly, and giving support to those who need it.
If this bill is passed, it gets rid of part of the Education Code.
Education Code: A set of laws that have rules about education in Texas.
The changes in this bill start right away if two-thirds of all members in the House of Representatives and the Senate vote “yes” for it.
If that two-thirds vote doesn’t happen, the changes start on September 1, 2025.
