Making Abortion Medicine a Controlled Substance

About the bill:

  • This bill changes part of the health and safety code to label certain medications differently

  • If this bill passes, certain medications that end a pregnancy will be labeled as “Schedule IV substances,” which are medications have more rules about using. The new medications on this list are Mifepristone and Misoprostol.

  • So, if this bill passes, people could get in trouble for using or giving out these drugs in a way that breaks the law.

    • This change only applies to crimes that happen on or after the changes start.

    • Crimes that took place before the start date will follow the law that was in place at that time.

  • These changes start on September 1, 2025.
