Making Abortion Medicine a Controlled Substance

This bill changes part of the health and safety code to label certain medications differently

If this bill passes, certain medications that end a pregnancy will be labeled as “Schedule IV substances,” which are medications have more rules about using. The new medications on this list are Mifepristone and Misoprostol.

So, if this bill passes, people could get in trouble for using or giving out these drugs in a way that breaks the law.

• This change only applies to crimes that happen on or after the changes start.

• Crimes that took place before the start date will follow the law that was in place at that time.

These changes start on September 1, 2025.
