About the bill:
Right now, the Alabama Constitution of 2022 can be changed if the group that makes the state laws turns in a suggested change for people to say “yes” or “no” to.
The change starts once the lawmakers accept it,
Both state and local laws need to be voted on by this group of lawmakers, and usually start once they vote on it or when the law says so
Alabama Constitution of 2022: an updated version of the rules Alabama follows that was originally written in 1901.
This bill suggests a change to the Alabama Constitution of 2022 that would give the people the power to suggest laws and changes to the state constitution through a process where they can suggest and vote on laws themselves.
If the bill passes, suggestions would have the same limits that the lawmakers have.
If the bill passes, lawmakers can also suggest other options that are different from what the people vote on.
