Bill:

SB 120

Educational Institutions Cannot Promote DEI

Educational Institutions Cannot Promote DEI

About the bill:

  • If this bill is passed, it will update part of the Code of Georgia about education.

    • Code of Georgia: These are the rules or laws for the state of Georgia that say what people in Georgia can and cannot do.

  • This bill:

    • Says that schools and colleges should not have diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

      • Examples of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs:

        • Giving some people support because of experiences related to their race, where they’re from, their gender, or their sexuality.

          • Gender: How a person feels about being boy, girl, or something else. This can be different from the sex were called when they were born.

          • Sexuality: how a person feels in their attraction towards other people with the same or different gender.

        • Have training that teaches people to treat some people better than others because of their race or gender.

        •  Colleges can't teach that some people have hidden biases or that some words are always bad.

          • Biases: How a person thinks about something

      • If a school or college breaks these rules and supports DEI Programs, the state might take away some of its money. This includes money for the schools or colleges and money for students to go to college.

      • These new rules don't mean that schools don't have to follow other state and national laws that say they can't treat people unfairly.
