Bill:
SB 244
About the bill:
This bill adds a new part to the Florida Statutes stopping Florida Colleges and state universities from taking applications from or letting in students who are undocumented immigrants, and gets rid of another part about not making undocumented students pay out of state fees.
Florida Statutes: A set of laws that everyone in Florida has to follow.
Undocumented immigrants: People from other countries who live in the United States without official permission from the government.
Out of state fees: Extra money that students who don't live in Florida have to pay to attend Florida colleges or universities.
If this bill passes:
Any Florida College or state university that accepts less than 85% of people who apply to go to school there, may not take applications from or let people go to the school who are undocumented immigrants.
There will be no more fee waivers for undocumented students. Right now, fee waivers let certain undocumented students in Florida go to public colleges in Florida for less money.
These changes will start July 1, 2025
