Bill:
HB 1042
About the bill:
This bill gets rid of the an act from 2023 that made it harder for regular people to have a say in creating or changing laws
If this bill passes, it will change how people in Arkansas turn in Petitions, which are requests people sign, for ballot initiatives and referendums.
Ballot initiatives: A way for people to suggest new laws by collecting signatures from voters. If enough people sign, the law gets put on the ballot so everyone can vote on it.
Referendums: A way for people to vote on a law that the government has already made. Voters get to decide if the law should stay or be removed by voting "yes" or "no" on the ballot.
If this bill passes, it gets rid of two parts of the Arkansas code about counting signatures for initiative or referendum petitions.
