Creating and Ebony Alert System

This new bill would create the Ebony Alert to help find Black young people who are missing in a way that seems strange or suspicious.

Here's how it would work:

• Who can ask for an Ebony Alert?:  Police officers can ask for an Ebony Alert if they think it would help find a missing Black young person.

• What needs to happen for an Ebony Alert to be sent out?: The police need to think the missing person is: 

  • between 12 and 25 years old

  • has a disability

  • is in an unsafe situation 

• How does the Ebony Alert work?:

  •   The police would ask the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency to send out the alert.

  •  This alert would go out on the radio, TV, and social media. The police might also put up signs with information about the missing person. 

If it passes, the bill would help make sure that missing Black young people get the help they need to be found safe. This law would go into effect on October 1, 2025.
